About the Style
OK, HOPheads – get ready for our first competition of 2021! It’s that time of year again when we crave bold, boozy, and indulgent beers that warm us in the colder weather. Much like NEIPA, the Pastry Stout is yet another recent innovation and brewing trend that shows no signs of slowing. With a relatively high gravity, a dose of unfermentable lactose sugar, and ingredients more common in baking than brewing, Pastry Stouts are a glassful of awesome.
*This competition is for HOPs Club Members ONLYWe want everyone to start off with the identical malts, yeast, and basic adjuncts. Then, we want you to put your own unique twist on your recipe! Do what you will – add cinnamon, spice, or anything you’d like to create a unique variation of the style. Each entry will then be judged by our expert brewery employees, to determine the “Bake-Off” winner!
Here is how it will work:
1) Purchase a Base Kit – $30.00
This will include:
– All malts for the recipe, pre-milled and combined (2-row, Barke Vienna, C-20, C-60, Carafa II, Chocolate)
– All hops for the recipe (Magnum pellets)
– Lactose, 1 pound
– Cacao Nibs
– Fermentis Dry Yeast
2) Brewing Ingredient Kits will be distributed in the first week of February. All entries must be received by Friday, March 19th for judging. There will be awards issued for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place entries.
